SITTENGESCHICHTE DES INTIMEN - 15 Color Plates; Bett. Koresett. Hemd. Hose. Bad. Abtritt.

Wien/Leipzig: Verlag Fur Kulturforschung, [1930]. Fifteen color plates. Very good.

Item #67668

A collection of 15 color plates taken from a volume on the history and development of intimate apparel and devices, edited by Leo Schidrowitz. Plates are 6x9" overall. Illustrations include classical Indian and Japanese work, 18th and 19th century bawdy and satirical works, including one plate by Thomas Rowlandson, plus contemporary works (a half-naked flapper, a version of Leda and the Swan, woman caught skinny dipping, etc). Also of note: 19th c. illustration, Das Brauthemd [The Bride-Shirt] of a man showing his drinking buddies the bloodied white shirt of his bride, while she covers herself behind a door, and a lithograph with a scatalogical / peeping theme: in this playful illustration of a man peeking through an outhouse door, the viewer can lift the flap of the door to see a surprised woman rising from her seat. Plates have been cleanly and neatly excised, along with the title page. Comparison with an original, complete text shows all are present. Plates have been placed by former owner in a protective manila folder.
