THE LIFE OF HELEN CLIFFE.

n.p. No Publisher, [1950s-60s?]. Typescript, in manila folder. Thumbing and wear to page edges (this has been a working copy), with wrinkling to first pages and tears and some pieces missing from margin of the last page.

Item #53066

Manuscript. 99pp. A mixture of typescript and mimeo; first 11 pages are mimeoed, and the following, on bond paper, appear to be typescript pages. There are many corrections and additions made in pencil throughout, so this seems to be a revised working copy. THE LIFE OF HELEN CLIFFE details the erotic life, from young adulthood on, of the title character, and includes flagellation, nuns, her sister, her marriage, life in Paris, etc. The story begins: "The life of Helen Cliffe up to a time where this biography begins may be narrated in a few pages. Second daughter of the youthful widow who owned Carlyon [Carlton?] Hall and the estate round it, she had realized for a long time past that she and her elder sister were perpetually and horribly in the way of their mother, who wanted to marry again.."

Price: $250.00
