Item #4135

Pochoir was a stencil technique very much in vogue in fashion illustration up until the 1930s, at which time less expensive photo-mechanical techniques took over. The Gazette du Bon Ton was a limited edition fashion periodical edited by Lucien Vogel between 1912 and 1926. Artists such as Georges Lepape, Georges Barbier, Raoul Dufy and Eduardo Benito were regular contributors. The artist's name "Bettina Smith" appears in the urn in the lower left corner. This work is reproduced (in b/w) in Roland Gagey's collection, L'ENFER DES BEAUX ARTS [c. 1960].
