Item #1308

277pp. "A paradigm of the highly mannered, rigorously stylized novels of flagellation that came out of turn-of-the-century England. This work was originally published in 1902 and written by the author of DOLLY MORTON." From the library of Patrick J. Kearney, with his small name sticker at the bottom of the front pastedown. Laid in is a note from bookseller and historian Stephen J. Gertz, noting that this copy was given by Grove Press publisher Barney Rosset to his uncle, Elmer Gertz, who in Chicago in 1962 won Tropic of Cancer's first US victory as a counsel for Henry Miller and Grove Press. In 1988, Elmer Gertz gave this and other Grove Press hardcovers to Stephen, who, in turn, gifted this to Patrick J. Kearney in 2004.
