8vo. 194 pp. From the library of Patrick J. Kearney, with his small name sticker at the bottom of the verso of the front cover. A reprint of an erotic novel first published in two volumes in 1890, probably at Bruxelles by Auguste Brancart. Although it doesn’t say so, this reprint probably comprises volume one only of the novel. The original edition was divided in 32 chapters, 15 for volume one and the balance for volume two. This present edition has only 15 chapters. Also, the present edition has 194 pages whereas the original had a combined total of 450 pages. The book was originally credited to 'E.D., a pseudonym used on a large number of erotic novels published during the 1880s and 90s. These initials have been read as belonging to both Emile Desjardins, as here, or Edmund Dumoulin. Both are strong candidates, but it has also been suggested that both may have written erotica for the same publisher, Dumoulin supplying largely flagellation material and Desjardins more conventional fare, or vice versa.
