Many of the illustrations, taken from the Institut fur Sexualwissenschaft, are quite unique since the Nazis suppressed the institute and its library was destroyed in 1933. Vol. 1: Kulturgeschichteí, deals with cultural history; Vol. 2 with erotic literature and art; Vol. 3: Sexualwissenschaftí, with sexual science; and Vol 4, is an Erganzungsbandí or supplementary volume.
