Item #79110 KILLJOY RAP. Harvey Pekar, Val Mayerik, writer.

KILLJOY RAP. February 13, 1987.

Iola, WI: Comic Buyer's Guide, 1987. Leaf from tabloid newspaper. Very good.

Item #79110

A single leaf from the Comic Buyer's Guide featuring "Killjoy Rap," a four-panel comic by Pekar/Mayerik; comic approx 10 x 13". This was created for the Celeveland Plain Dealer, and was reprinted here in the CBG, with the note 'We own it and it won't go into any American Splendor books.' Comic: "1/6/87, comic book writer Harvey Pekar on the David Letterman Show." Dave asks Harvey if he's a sports fan, and Harv talks about the recent (Jan 3rd) Cleveland Browns win over the NY Jets in double-overtime. Harvey talks about the game, then, back in Cleveland, walks down the street (the West Side Market in the background), musing on sports, his memories of Cleveland sporting events, and fandom in general. A very good Pekar strip, both very personal and Cleveland-specific, yet universal. Page also includes a news note that a comic based on Pekar's Letterman appearance (his second) will appear in the next American Splendor. Scarce.
