ANKH. Vol. 01, No. 04, Spring Quarter 1968.
Los Angeles: Elysium Inc., 1968. Perfect bound magazine. Light shelfwear. Very Good.
Item #69792
68pp., including covers, sexually explicit magazine and illustrated with b/w, duotone and color photos. ANKH: The Journal of the Senses, "a scientific, educational, and sociological publication of the Sex Education Series, dedicated to the wide dissemination of sexual knowledge for the modern inquiring adult," was later published by Centurion Press of Los Angeles; a timeline of issue and volume numbers shows a correspondence. This marks an interesting segue from Elysium's focus on naturism and nudism to the sort of sexual knowledge magazines sprouting up in the early 1970s. Photos of nudists, hippies, and free spirits by Walter Chappell, Leif Heilberg, Ed Lange, Keith Bancroft, Titus Moody, Ralph Hampton, etc. Published by Ed Lange, edited by Charles Cropsey. Articles: What Hath LSD / God / LSD Wrought?, by Karl Drescher and Mike Lamb. Thoreau, the First Hippie. Thoreau on Civil Disobedience. The Utopian Dream, by Dick Blackburn. Youth in Rebellion, by Michael Agnello. Love in the Haight, by Gail Ericson. Feature: New Living, Bulletin of the Elysium Institute (includes Some Thoughts about the Self: Walt Whitman, by David Ohlson; Communal Brethren of the Great Plains, by John W. Bennett).
