Oblong 4to. pp. xiii+34. Twelve coloured plates. A facsimile reprint, and a very handsome one, of an extremely rare album of graphically erotic engravings dating from the late 18th century. Only two copies appear to be known. One belonging to the actor Michel Simon, was sold at auction at his death in 1977 to an unknown party. The other, which was used for the present reprint, was in the library of the late Gérard Nordmann, an important collector in Geneva. The Christie's auction catalogue of Nordmann's collection (27 April 2006) lists these two known copies. The name of the artist responsible for the plates is unknown, but the text accompanying each of the twelve plates has been ascribed to Andréa de Nerciat, as well as Vivant Denon.

Detailed descriptions of the work, their provenance, and background on the artists accompany each lot, as well as illustrations of other work by the artists or their contemporaries for the purposes of comparison and contrast.
